After my ski trip to Whistler earlier in the year, I had the itch to go skiing again in Europe. My friend, Stella and I decided to do a long weekend trip to Cervinia in Italy. As Europe didn’t get the best snow this year, we chose Cervinia as it sits at 2,050m above sea level and you can also ski to Zermatt in Switzerland. However, during our three night stay, the weather was unfavourable, with snow, strong winds and very low visibility.
We flew out to Turin on Thursday night and got a private transfer that took 1.5 hours to Cervinia. We spent two days skiing and flew back to London on Sunday night. Had the weather been better, we could have used the extra half day and skied to Zermatt but unfortunately, we were just unlucky. Although it was a short yet expensive trip, it was really nice to spend a long weekend away in the mountains.
Day 1
There was a lot of fresh snow which was great to ski on but our access was limited as some lifts were closed. We stopped by for lunch at Up Restaurant and shared the penne bolognese (huge portion but very average). We skiied for a couple of hours before going to Tasty – Gin & Tonic Bar for some drinks and snacks. For dinner, we went to Base Camp Bar & Pizza Restaurant and shared the arrabbiata pizza and pork ribs which were both good.

Day 2
The next morning, the weather did not improve but we were lucky that the Cervinia side lifts were still open (Zermatt was closed). It was great skiing on fresh powder and we still enjoyed the runs here. For lunch, we went to La Motta Chez Gabriel and shared the lasagne and caprese salad. In the evening, we headed to Casa Montana for a drink then went back to Tasty for some more drinks. We went to Maison De Saussure for dinner and I had the mushroom tagliatelle but it was very underseasoned and quite disappointing that I didn’t get to enjoy any noteworthy pasta during my time here, as one might expect in Italy.

I’m not sure I’d rush back to this area but I was glad to go skiing in Italy for the first time.
